What is the focus of Can You Believe It!? - Children's Ministry Curriculum?

‘Can You Believe It!?’ curriculum is all about teaching children our common foundational beliefs as followers of Jesus Christ. Understanding the word of God is what gives us a solid foundation on which to build our lives.

Across 9 weeks it explores the 3 big picture topics: God and His Word, Jesus Our Saviour and Living for God.

BIG PICTURE: GOD AND HIS WORD

BIG WORD: IN THE BEGINNING WAS THE WORD, AND THE WORD WAS WITH GOD, AND THE WORD WAS GOD. HE WAS WITH GOD IN THE BEGINNING. THROUGH HIM ALL THINGS WERE MADE; WITHOUT HIM NOTHING WAS MADE THAT HAS BEEN MADE. JOHN 1:1-3 (NIV)

Lesson 1 BIG IDEA: WHAT I BELIEVE (1.1)
BIG POINT: I BELIEVE IN GOD THE FATHER, SON AND HOLY SPIRIT
At the conclusion of this lesson children will:
- Discover that God exists in three persons: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.
- Know that God is totally loving and completely holy.
- Learn that it's important to know what we believe.

Lesson 2 BIG IDEA: THIS IS WHAT IT SAYS (1.2)
BIG POINT: I BELIEVE GOD'S WORD IS TRUE
At the conclusion of this lesson children will:
- Know that the Bible is God's Word
- Learn that God's Word is true.
- Discover that God's Word is applicable to our every lives.

Lesson 3 BIG IDEA: MADE IN YOUR IMAGE (1.3)
BIG POINT: I BELIEVE GOD CREATED YOU AND ME
At the conclusion of this lesson children will:
- Understand that God created each one of us.
- Learn that we are made in God's image.
- Discover that each person is unique and special.

BIG PICTURE: JESUS OUR SAVIOUR

Lesson 1 BIG IDEA: MY BEST FRIEND (2.1)
BIG POINT: I BELIEVE JESUS IS MY SAVIOUR
At the conclusion of this lesson children will:
- Learn that sin has separated us from God and His purpose for our lives.
- Know that it's only through Jesus that we can be made right with God.
- Discover Jesus is our saviour and friend.

Lesson 2 BIG IDEA: WHAT A BEAUTIFUL NAME (2.2)
BIG POINT: I BELIEVE IN THE POWER OF JESUS' NAME
At the conclusion of this lesson children will:
- Discover that Jesus rose again proving His victory over death.
- Understand that Jesus' name is above all names.
- Know that there is power in Jesus' name.

Lesson 3 BIG IDEA: VOICES OF FREEDOM (2.3)
BIG POINT: I BELIEVE IN FORGIVENESS THROUGH JESUS
At the conclusion of this lesson children will:
- Know that to receive forgiveness we must repent of our sin.
- Learn that we have forgiveness through Jesus Christ.
- Understand that we are no longer captive to sin, Jesus sets us free.

BIG PICTURE: LIVING FOR GOD

BIG WORD: FOR I KNOW THE PLANS I HAVE FOR YOU,” DECLARES THE LORD, “PLANS TO PROSPER YOU AND NOT TO HARM YOU, PLANS TO GIVE YOU HOPE AND A FUTURE. JEREMIAH 29:11 (NIV)

Lesson 1 BIG IDEA: THIS IS LIVING (3.1)
BIG POINT: I BELIEVE GOD HAS A PURPOSE FOR MY LIFE
At the conclusion of this lesson children will:
- Know that God gives us a reason and purpose for our lives.
- Discover that God leads us when we choose to live for Him.
- Learn that God's purpose for our lives is to serve others.

Lesson 2 BIG IDEA: WE CAME TO MEET WITH YOU (3.2)
BIG POINT: I BELIEVE THE CHURCH IS GOD'S PLAN
At the conclusion of this lesson children will:
- Know that as the church, we come together to meet with God.
- Understand that God wants to build the Church.
- Learn that we all have a part to play in building the Church.

Lesson 3 BIG IDEA: HEAVEN IS MY HOME (3.3)
BIG POINT: I BELIEVE JESUS WILL RETURN
At the conclusion of this lesson children will:
- Know that Jesus will come back again as He promised.
- Discover that Jesus prepares a home for us in heaven.
- Learn that as Christians, we will spend forever in heaven.
