What is the focus of The Greatest Story Ever Told - Children's Ministry Curriculum?

The Bible is not just a book, it’s The Greatest Story Ever Told! We take a birds eye view of the whole Bible in 9 lessons, from Genesis to Revelation seeing God’s salvation story unfold.

In this series children will discover the big picture themes of the Bible. Starting with Origins - where the story all began. In the opening scene we learn that we all need to be rescued and God has a plan! The story follows God’s people in Egypt and their journey to the promised land as we discover that God takes care of His people. Through a series of Judges and Kings we learn, from the good and bad, that God wants us to trust and obey Him.

The Hero of the story rises as we see God’s Chosen One, Jesus, spoken of by the prophets arrive announcing that The Kingdom of God is Here. An unexpected twist to the Saviour God’s people were looking for. Next, we discover that we have a Tale To Tell - a mission from Jesus to share the good news.

The Never Ending Story of God and His people continues as we follow the Early Church and the bold men and women who travelled to spread the Gospel. We learn that the Church is God’s plan for us and that the Great God adventure is to be shared. The story of God and His people is still being written today, we are all part of God’s story and Jesus will return… Coming Soon!

BIG PICTURE 1: ORIGINS
BIG WORD: “I WILL MAKE MY COVENANT WITH YOU LAST FOREVER. IT WILL BE BETWEEN ME AND YOU AND YOUR FAMILY AFTER YOU FOR ALL TIME TO COME. I WILL BE YOUR GOD. AND I WILL BE THE GOD OF ALL YOUR FAMILY AFTER YOU.” GENESIS 17:7 (NIRV)

BIG IDEA 1: Opening Scene (1.1)
BIG POINT: WE ALL NEED TO BE RESCUED AND GOD HAS A PLAN
At the conclusion of this lesson children will:
- know that the Bible is not just a book, it’s the greatest story ever told. 
- learn that we all need to be rescued from sin and God has a plan. 
- be introduced to the book of Genesis.

BIG IDEA 2: Invasion and Escape  (1.2)
BIG POINT: God takes care of His people
At the conclusion of this lesson children will: 
- discover the story of God’s people from their time in Egypt to the promised land. 
- know that God takes care of His people, that’s us!  
- be introduced to the books of Exodus through to Joshua.

BIG IDEA 3: Judges and Kings  (1.3)
BIG POINT: God wants us to trust and obey 
At the conclusion of this lesson children will:
- discover the story of God and His people as they were led by different Judges and Kings. 
- know that God wants us to trust and obey Him. 
- be introduced to the books of Judges through to Song of Solomon. 

BIG PICTURE 2: A HERO RISES
BIG WORD: “GOD SENT HIS SON TO BE THE SAVIOUR OF THE WORLD. WE SAW HIS SON AND ARE NOW TELLING OTHERS ABOUT HIM." 1 JOHN 4:14 (CEV)

BIG IDEA 1: The Chosen One (2.1)
BIG POINT: Jesus is God’s Son and our Saviour
At the conclusion of this lesson children will:
- understand that the prophets foretold the coming Saviour. 
- know that Jesus is the hero of our story. 
- be introduced to the books of Isaiah through to Malachi.

BIG IDEA 2: An Unexpected Twist (2.2)
BIG POINT: The Kingdom of God is here 
At the conclusion of this lesson children will:
- learn that the hero everyone was waiting for, Jesus, was an unexpected twist. 
- discover that Jesus taught about the Kingdom of God, a kingdom different to the world’s kingdoms
- be introduced to the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.

BIG IDEA 3: A tale to tell (2.3)
BIG POINT: We all have a mission from Jesus 
At the conclusion of this lesson children will:
- know that we have a tale to tell, Good News to share. 
- learn that Jesus gave us a mission, to go into all the world and make disciples. 
- discover what happened after Jesus’ resurrection and before His ascension.

BIG PICTURE 3: NEVER ENDING
BIG WORD: “LOOK! I AM COMING SOON! I BRING MY REWARDS WITH ME. I WILL REWARD EACH PERSON FOR WHAT THEY HAVE DONE. I AM THE ALPHA AND THE OMEGA. I AM THE FIRST AND THE LAST. I AM THE BEGINNING AND THE END.” REVELATION 22:12-13 (NIRV)

BIG IDEA 1: What Happened Next? (3.1)
BIG POINT: The Church is God's plan for Us 
At the conclusion of this lesson children will:
- know that the Church is God’s plan for the world. 
- learn how the Christian Church was started and grew. 
- be introduced to the book of Acts and the story of the early Church.

BIG IDEA 2: Adventure Ahead (3.2)
BIG POINT: The Great God adventure is to be shared 
At the conclusion of this lesson children will:
- discover that living for God is an adventure. 
- understand that we share the adventure with a community of believers. 
- be introduced to the books of Romans through to Philemon.

BIG IDEA 3: Coming Soon... (3.3)
BIG POINT: We are part of God’s story 
At the conclusion of this lesson children will:
- know that we are all part of God’s story. 
- learn that Jesus will return one day. 
- be introduced to the books of Hebrews through to Revelation.
